The Fear from Within
As the Beastie haunts the boys in Lord of the Flies,
it uncovers the dark truth that has yet to be discovered.
As the emotion of fear slowly clouded the minds of the boys, it really affects way of thinking critically. On an island that has no other inhabitants than wild animals or trees, the boys loses the sense of security and hence they have the tendency of coming up stories that seem to make sense. The purpose of this is to gain that security that they needed as kids. This was shown when the boys had the discussion regarding the existence of the Beastie. Whether it is real or not, it is still a mystery for them and thus a hunt was set to clarify its very existence. The ignorance that the boys are facing led them to question most of the things that they have encountered on the island. They even questioned about their own selves on whether or not they are the ones responsible for their own actions later in the novel.
Lord of the Flies portrays the dark truth about the evil that lurks inside of everyone. Including the boys of the island. The belief of the beast that grew inside of each and every one of them made them think that the actual beast is from within themselves. It is not the beast. But the belief that a Beastie really exists uncovers the actual monster that lurks with the boys. It is the darkness that already lurks in within the boys including us as people in a society. This evil entity that we all carry in our hearts is able to control all of our actions.
Why did they, specifically Simon, question themselves to be the ones who they should all fear? Why wasn't the beast It is simple because of the evil that we all have in ourselves. That a person can be blinded by the fear from within and the fear of the unknown and thus creating actions that may injure or even harm other people. In the novel, Simon's conversation with the Lord of the Flies illustrates that the darkness from within may overcome society and devour it as a whole.
